About us

Meet the Fairy Council

Welcome to the Foss Fairy Trail, a magical riverside walk along the River Foss in York, lovingly maintained by our local community. As you explore the enchanted woodland, see if you can spot all the fairy houses nestled among the trees. The trail is open to the public 24/7 and offers free entry, making it a perfect family day out.

Tracy

Tracy founded the trail during the early days of the 2021 lockdown. Inspired by a couple of fairy doors she noticed on trees along the river pathway, she began creating fairy houses and placing them by the river, bringing a touch of magic to a previously neglected area.

Beth

Beth manages the financial aspects of the trail, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to maintain and improve the trail.

Sarah

Sarah excels in organisation and enjoys tackling tasks like shifting wood chippings, viewing them as great workouts. She believes that involvement in the Foss Fairy Trail should be fun, sociable, and impactful for the local community.

In addition to the committee, we have about 16 enthusiastic volunteers who contribute their diverse skills and talents. Together, we make up the Foss Fairy Trail.

Our Vision

We aim to create a magical walkway by the river for both the local community and visitors to York to enjoy. Our goals include enhancing biodiversity in the area, promoting recycling, highlighting the positive effects of being in nature, and bringing the community together.

Join the Magic

Whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning to see new additions, we invite you to be part of this special community. Come along, follow the tiny doors, and let your imagination take flight!
